The Writer’s Workshop

November 2nd, 10 am – 3:30 pm

This workshop is for creative or academic purposes and will benefit both teens and adults. The first part of the day will be centered around academic writing while the last half of the day will be centered around the art of creative writing. At the end of the workshop, each participant will have a basic understanding of the difference between academic writing and creative writing as well as the benefits of both. For those who have questions about the workshop material, there will be a question and answer session just before closing.

Academic writing will consist of

  • Basic formatting
  • Formal vs Informal Writing “What is too informal?”
  • Research Methods
  • Types of Non-fiction and their Purposes

Creative writing will consist of

  • Plot Anatomy
  • Poetry Anatomy
  • World Building
  • NaNoWriMo, What is it?
  • Creativity games
  • Short story challenge

Cost: $20 per person

Any underage students attending will require a parent or guardian to attend with them. Parents or guardians may attend at no extra cost.

All participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the day.

For homeschool attendees, this workshop would fall under English/Language Arts and will be stated on the certificate for your benefit. A certificate can be added to your child’s portfolio as proof of activity completion.

Please arrive a minimum of 15 minutes early so you have time to register and get settled.

10 am – 12 pm Welcome and Academic Writing

12 pm – 12:45 pm Lunch

1 pm – 3 pm Creative Writing

3 pm – 3:30 pm Q & A/ Closing
